MAiD Seminar-Emo Christian Reformed Church

April 18 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Talbot Street Church in London, Ontario, is hosting a seminar on the important topic of MAiD. As Talbot Street Church Care Team notes, “In June 2016, the Canadian federal government passed legislation to expand access to Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). While general support for MAiD has increased, research indicates that most Canadians have concerns that accompany their support; demonstrating the reality that end-of-life issues are complex and involve personal moral and spiritual perspectives in addition to legal, social and medical considerations.”
“All of this raises important questions such as:
Will the Canadian healthcare system begin to ignore long-term care and chronic disease in the elderly as MAiD becomes more readily available?
Are there safeguards to protect those with disabilities?
What is a Christian perspective on MAiD?
How do Christians respond with clarity, compassion, conviction and credibility on this topic?”
“We warmly welcome two Christian experts in their respective fields to present and answer questions on this challenging topic:
Dr. Erica VanDaalen, MD is the Chief & Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. Dr. VanDaalen will present on patient & family rights for decision making in end-of-life care.
Ray Pennings is the Executive Vice President of Cardus, a non-partisan think tank dedicated to clarifying and strengthening, through research and dialogue, the ways in which society’s institutions can work together for the common good. Dr. Pennings will address MAiD from the current policy position of our government and then from a Christian perspective.”
Talbot Street Church is graciously making a livestream of this seminar available online. Event will be livestreamed at the Emo Christian Reformed Church (18 Meadow Street, Emo) on Thursday, April 18, from 9 AM. All welcome.
