DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, August 15th from 2-5 pm\, there will be a unique (and free) learning opportunity offered to our community! A Community Action Poverty Simulation\, which will be facilitated by Sue Monson of MAHUBE-OTWA Community Action.\nThis event will provide participants a chance to experience the struggles and hurdles people face struggling with poverty. People will be assigned life scenarios and time is broken into four 15-minute rounds\, representing each week of the month. By the end of the “month\,” the goal is for the person or family unit to acquire needed services\, pay bills\, make sure they had food and other necessities\, and (depending on goals/scenarios) go to work\, get kids to school\, obtain higher education\, and maintain order in their lives.\nAfter the simulation is complete\, there will be a time for debriefing so participants can talk about their experiences. We hope that this event will provide everyone involved with a better understanding of the barriers that people in poverty are up against and promote positive change where possible. DESCRIPTION:The next Bemidji Area Church Musicians Summer Recital Series will be held on August 7th at the Calvary Lutheran Church\, located at 2508 Washington Ave SE in Bemdiji from 12-12:30. \nPerforming selections on the piano will be Mary Thoreson and Sarah Leach along with Samantha Melberg on the flute. A variety of styles will be presented. \nA luncheon will follow the 30 minute concert with a price to be announced. \nThe public is cordially invited to attend this recital.
